Therapy for burnout in Vancouver, WA and throughout Washington State
Caregivers, parents, high demand jobs, deep feelers, and highly sensitive people…
Burnout is more than being tired. It’s what happens when you’ve been giving more than you’ve been able to replenish for a long time, and your system finally stops cooperating.
It can show up in a lot of ways:
Exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix
Feeling detached or numb, going through the motions
Dreading things you used to find meaningful
Increased irritability or a shorter fuse than usual
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
A creeping sense that nothing you do is ever enough
Burnout doesn’t only happen in high-demand or stressful jobs. It shows up in caregivers, parents, and anyone who has been holding a lot for a long time without enough support or rest. It can develop slowly over years, which is part of why it catches people off guard. By the time most people recognize it, they’ve been running on empty for a while.
What tends to make it worse is pushing through. The instinct to do more, try harder, or just get to the next milestone before taking a breath. Burnout doesn’t respond well to that. It usually asks for something different.
IFS is particularly well-suited for burnout because it helps you look at the parts of you that have been driving the doing, the achieving, the holding it all together. Those parts usually have good reasons for working so hard. Understanding what they’re carrying, and what they actually need, is often where things start to shift. The goal isn’t to stop caring or slow down permanently. It’s to find a way forward that doesn’t cost you everything.
